Score report glossary

• Standards are usually established at the state level, are the things all students should know and be able to do by the time they finish each grade. Standards are what your child should know at the end of each grade.
• Curriculum is what your child does in the classroom every day. It is how teachers teach the standards. The curriculum taught to your child is usually determined by your district, school, or teacher.
• Assessments show if your child has learned what was covered in class, or if they need more support. Assessments are a check on your child’s progress as they move along their learning path. In order for assessments to be fair and effective, they should reflect the work done in class every day.
• Vocabulary, meaning the ability of your child to figure out the meaning of words and phrases they read using context.
• Reading Literary Text, meaning the ability of your child to read and understand grade-level texts such as stories and poems.
• Reading Informational Text, meaning the ability of your child to read and understand nonfiction texts such as articles.
