Dr. Luis Lima

Senior Advisor for Curriculum Assessment, and Professional Services, STEM

Dr. Luis Lima is a Senior Advisor for Curriculum Assessment, and Professional Services, STEM at CenterPoint. In this role he provides leadership in the effective design and implementation of professional learning and curriculum and assessment design for STEM-specific projects.

Prior to joining CenterPoint, Luis served as a mathematics content specialist at UnboundEd, and previously served as the curriculum coordinator, secondary school mathematics for Anne Arundel County Public Schools and Baltimore City Public Schools. Additional experience includes a position at Curriculum Services, Inc. as the director, technology education services. In addition to experience as an adjunct professor at Townson University, John Hopkins University, and Morgan State University, Luis also spent 13 years in the classroom as an educator, specializing in mathematics and bi-lingual education.

Luis earned his Ed.D. in Leadership and Policy Studies, and a dual M.Ed. in Curriculum and Instruction and Career & Technology Education from Bowling Green State University, and his BS in Secondary Mathematics Education from the Universidade Castelo Branco, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. Luis also earned his Principal Certification – Administrator II, Supervisor Certification – Administrator I, and Teacher Certificate – Advanced Professional Certificate from the Maryland Department of Education. He serves as the Executive Director, Maryland Council of Teachers of Mathematics. Luis’ favorite teacher was Mr. Peixoto in middle school. He was the first teacher who ever challenged him to discover why things worked in math. He presented math as a logical and fun way of making meaning of the world around his students.
