Maia Sharpley

Managing Partner, Juvo Ventures

Maia is Co-founder and Managing Partner of Juvo Ventures. She joined from Learn Capital, where she was Partner and also served as a board observer to many portfolio companies spanning the globe, across all education subsections including Bloomboard, SoloLearn, Onramp, and Smashcut. Maia has a proven track record of conceptualizing, developing, and optimizing businesses in the US, Europe, and Asia-Pacific. She has built and run multiple educational start-ups in addition to leading highly visible initiatives. A recognized thought-leader, her experience spans the globe with deep roots in the K-12, post-secondary education, professional/vocational, test prep, language training, pathways/foundation, and publishing industries.

Previously, Maia was the Executive Vice President of Innovation and Strategic Initiatives for Charter Schools USA, responsible for developing innovative EdTech solutions and new capabilities within the organization as well as overseeing marketing; before that she was Corporate Vice President for Strategy and Innovation with Kaplan, Inc. where she led a broad range of strategic initiatives, oversaw the company’s EdTech portfolio and built multiple businesses. Prior to Kaplan, Maia served as Executive Director of Operations for the New York City Department of Education and was a founding member of its Children First team spearheading various reform initiatives.

Maia serves on the Board of multiple education organizations including colleges, research think tanks, EdTech accelerators, and start-ups, and is a mentor to numerous start-ups and small businesses. A graduate of Trinity College in Hartford, CT, Maia earned her MBA from the Ross School of Business, University of Michigan, and is a Kauffman Fellow. She is an avid skier, has traveled extensively, lived and worked overseas, is fluent in multiple languages, and a United States Patent holder.
